Tips and advice for women business travelers
It’s the age of women
empowerment. They are equal with men in every aspects of the life, including
business partnership. Today business travel is no more a myth for the
weaker sex of the society. However, the journey is not going to be smooth
for them, especially if they are alone and are traveling to a new place
where the custom and culture are totally different. It is better to
get prepared well in advance to avoid the dangerous situation they encounter,
especially being a woman.
Safety: The first
priority concern for a traveling woman is her safety. The way the outside
world perceives a foreign woman has been a concern for women all over
the world. This human nature, especially, the attitude of the opposite
gender, towards her is owing to the sexual attraction that she displays
being a ‘different’ lady from the native. Therefore, it is very
important that the traveling woman understands the culture of the society
where she is going to and adapts herself accordingly. For example, the
manners that she exhibits in the public may not have any sexual indication
in her native land, but it may be a sign of a taboo in the foreign country
if it is conservative, and this situation turns out to be an embarrassment
for her. Remember, foreigners wearing exposing dress were arrested in
Saudi Arabia in the past!
Accommodation:
This is another grave concern for a lonely woman traveler. Always arrange
your accommodation through your regular travel agent and ensure your
safety from their side also. If you are the first time traveler, get
the help of your friend or spouse to verify the details of the accommodation
that they are providing. After entering the hotel, make sure that the
hotelier will take care of your needs in case of emergency, such as
providing an escort to your room if you return late in the night. Watch
for all the security measures such as the emergency exits, alarms, and
the personal security provisions. Try to get a room that is near the
elevator, but not near to the emergency exits or stairwells. Check for
the security measures in the door such as the peephole and deadbolt.
Never allow any stranger inside your room. Leave the door open when
the service boys are on duty in your room and lock it as soon as they
leave.
Always carry the contact
details and address of the hotel where you are staying. It will be helpful
if you lose your way or get into an emergency situation such as accidents.
Health: Last but
not the least, health is a major concern for a traveling woman. The
common illness that are caused by fatigue, such as the dizzy spells,
headache, upset stomach, stress-related problems, etc., are very common
among women travelers. These are caused by their higher sensitivity
to changing environment and the mental stress in order to get adjusted
in the new surrounding. Carry a box of emergency medication with you.
Avoid eating unfamiliar food; eat a lot of fresh food such as salads,
fruits and juice.
Meditation and adequate sleep are the two pills for keeping you fit during a business trip.
